Rail users in the UK will be hit by a further rise in ticket prices which will come into effect next year.

The increase will be based on the Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation measure for July of 2.8%.

The figure is likely to lead to an increase of more than £100 in the annual cost of getting to work for many commuters.

I'd completely forgotten about public transport.

They are already ridiculously expensive. In fact the whole UK public transport is just a joke now and not fit for purpose. So much for privatisation.

Most of the increase goes to publickly owned Network rail. Privatisation isn't the cause of this. Would these increases not happen in total public ownership?

The they use rpi in regard to rail prices,
As opposed to CPI,
Which is the lower index for inflation..

But they choose to use the higher one..!

"Wage growth rose to 3.9%, while the estimated 76.1% employment rate was the best since comparative records began." (as of June 2019)

UK wage growth picks up to 11-year high

Workers are still ahead then...

Not good news for anyone using the railways.

Poor service and even higher prices.
