I’m thinking about getting a builder in to put up some sound proofing. Our lounge backs on to our neighbors house and they are noisey. Has anyone had any sound proofing put in and if so is it any good? Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading giffgafffers 😄

I can't say I've had that problem @rjs75 But I wonder if perhaps triple glazing might work?

My front bedroom overlooking a main road and junction on a hill has double glazing plus secondary double glazing with a 2 inch air gap rendering the room almost totally sound proof.

If its a party wall that's letting in noise you could always return in kind if you like music.
Can work sometimes but also start a loud war.
Otherwise if not the windows but the wall, you tube or google forums first before asking for advice from a builder

Done my own in my flat in Guernsey @rjs75

Slatted the wall added insulation.plasterboard then a mate to add a layer of finish plaster

Might not be perfect but helped immensely

Better with a dull thud now and then than hours of rap music

Has anyone ever complained to the council over noise of a neighbour? Also, if you do go down this route, would it have complications in selling a property later on? Get logged somewhere on the internet? Any help appreciated. Thanks giffgaffers 👌

As you know the Enironmental Health of the Council will tell you to keep a log of said noise and bad behaviour. The Council will have to decide when they feel the time is right for action.
When you sell a house now I believe you have to include your relationship with your neighbours.
