A HUGE sunspot has opened on the surface of the Sun and it could cause major problems here on Earth, researchers have warned.

Cosmic forecasters have noticed a massive sunspot appear on the Sun and Earth could fall into its stream of cosmic particles. As it stands, the sunspot is not pointing our way, but it could in the coming days, which could cause major problems. Sunspots are patches of darkness on the Sun which are caused by underlying magnetism beneath the surface. However, sometimes that magnetism bubbles up and is released in the form of solar flares, which spew cosmic particles into space. While holes like this are common, researchers have described the impending one as a “big one”.

And here

Try this

And here

There's nothing we can do about it, so I'll not worry (nor care) if it ever happens

Ill get my sunglasses out.

Just a thought they say an asteroid wiped out the Dinosaurs
I wonder if it were possible for the sun to do it too

What does this part mean ?
The higher amounts of radiation also leave people vulnerable to cancer.

Get the candles out cos maybe power cuts.. have to do knitting rather than texting! Empty the freezer... Have some readies cos bank computer systems n shop card readers might go down?  Trains would be disrupted..

As you say we so dependent on tech it would all be a bit strange but did they say how long stuff might be down - including time to reset things?

They always scaring us with stuff.  I think it generates funding for astrophysisists (have I spelled that rite) - if they're needed to predict or advise then more posts for them.

At end of day anything that big in nature like that thing out of disaster movie or a giant meteorite knowing it's going to happen won't help anyone.  I think anything definite they wouldn't tell us about cos of mass panic and all the bigwigs will be down in the nuclear bunkers.

Be funny to see how they survive in a world without serfs eh?
