Dunno if your thought is ironic or not, but this Goverment found a magic money tree at least once.
One was when they found themselves without a majority at the last election and needed the Ulster 'Unionists' to support them to govern. Suddenly there were millions for the Unionist projects in Northern Ireland, magic money tree indeed.
The reason that there is less money for our local Councils to run nurseries, Foster care, youth clubs. libraries and so on is that this government and its predecessor has not paid the councils what they did before . My local council has a reduction in core government funding of around 70% between 2010 and 2020. At the same time the Goverment reduced taxation on the wealthy and understaffed the Revenue services. Not surprised that there are pot holes for example. best wishes

4,500 reports a day are made to local councils in England about missed bin collections.

Very little to do with money, it is more about local authority incompetence.

I have to agree that when it comes to waste collection policy many places are a shambles, we are are lucky where I live our system works really well and the recycling system we have works really well and is easy to understand.
That said the insane policy of charging for larger items to be collected and not allowing people to use vans to take waste to the recycling centre just creates fly tipping which costs ten times as much to dispose of.
