France was the first country to use gas against enemy troops. In august 1914 they fired the first tear gas grenades (xylyl bromide) against the Germans

During ww1 British tanks were initially categorized into males and females . male tanks had cannons and females had machine guns

16,000 British men refused military service during WW1 and were prosecuted, known as conscientious objectors.

Most successful fighter of the entire war was german fighter pilot mantred Albrecht Freiherr von richtofen who shot down more than 80 planes (1892-1918). he was shot down over aimens on his last mission
