They seem to be taken a long time to reply, it's been about 24hrs and still no reply

This is quite usual for the agents recently, they usually reply within a couple of days though so it shouldn't be too much longer.

Well giffgaff try to keep their costs low by having less staff low resources etc.

They are employing more staff but it takes time
