Data roaming: I can't get it to work

I have a Huawei P10 with a gif gaff SIM.

 

I have been unable to access data roaming when in Spain, France, Switzerland  or Croatia.

 

The SIM roaming option is on. 

 

It possible the SIM was first used when in Spain, not the UK and I am not sure if this has caused the ongoing issue. Data works fine in UK .

 

I am away on holiday next week to Lanzarote and want to avoid this problem again.

Hi @lnsa Sorry to hear you had issues abroad. If you were able to make and receive calls then it was was likely due to your phones APN settings being incorrect especially as sim may have been used first abroad. 

 

Make sure your APN settings are as in link below for starters 

 

Then if you’ve used your sim in uk for a while now then you probably would be ok to use a goodybag in EU otherwise you will have to use airtime credit but check link below and see if you qualify for goodybag use in EU

 

Then make sure your Roaming is set to ON in your phone settings for data and also check the settings here https://giffgaff.com/call-services before you go

then check you have giffgaff's specific internet settings in your APN  profile. You may have O2's settings which will only work in the UK. 

If that setting is turned off, the likely reason is the length of time you've spent out of the UK over the last 120 days or the volume of calls, texts and data you've used whilst roaming compared to your use in the  UK.

There is probably a separate data roaming option in your phone settings. I had to set this when data did not work, but roaming was active

You can roam like at home in any EU country, make sure you enable roaming in your settings.

Hello the sim has to be used in uk for approx a week before you can roam in eu so you need credit if it was not used goodybag will not work 

 

roaming 

you must have active sim in uk for normally less than a week for inclusive roaming to work
Roaming abroad to get inclusive roaming you have to be a uk resident ,it only meant for residents to use for odd holiday max time on holiday is 60 days after that it stops ,under roaming on your giffgaff account it shows eligibility if it off you need prove u a uk resident

We'll make things easy by looking for some recent UK usage and then turning on the inclusive roaming for you. The vast majority of our members will become eligible without needing to do anything different. However, as an alternative, you can submit various documents as proof of residency.
To do this, you'll need to contact an agent needed

Its usually a case of the settings reverting back to o2 so you need to edit or delete them and to input the below setup for it to work.

• Turn Wifi Off
• On your mobile / device -
Set your data connection to 3G only,


Next:

Step 1. Delete the original internet / Apn / data settings or whatever there showing now,

Then: >>>

Step 2. Internet Whilst Abroad:

Go in to your settings and mobile networks or data networks / profiles and input the settings below once you find the menu with the APN and all the other stuff (such as below)

⚬ APN. giffgaff.com
⚬ Username. giffgaff
⚬ Password. Leave Blank

Power Off your phone for a minute and then turn back On and that should / should of worked.

Also,

⚬ Auto Roaming is set as default so its set to work automatically otherwise you can make sure its enabled here: https://giffgaff.com/profile/details

⚬ Next: Go in to your phone settings and click on carrier / carriers , then turn it on or make sure its set to Auto. This will help to connect to a network once out the UK.


If its still not working, >

(Some Handsets)

- Change the setting from national roaming to national and international (if you have this setting)

( IMPORTANT )
- Make sure the internet “Profile” is set to giffgaff and not o2

Thanks for your reply.

I note in my profile while its shows mobile roaming is on, below this option it doesn't show that I have EU roaming. does this make a difference

Well you will need to enable EU roaming in order to be able to use your phone in the EU.
