Lots of people find giffgaff confusing to start with  @ianhu86 especially with the terms which have specific meanings.

So to begin a voucher is a means of payment - along with credit / debit cards and Paypal - while a Goodybag is something you can buy with one of these payments.

When you join you have to activate a sim with some form of payment - which can be either a card or a voucher - but you can choose whether you buy a Goodybag or just add Airtime credit.

https://giffgaff.com/support/sim-and-number/activate-your-sim

This is because Airtime Credit and Goodybags are the two ways that you can use to fund the service.

Once activated you will be able to see what is on your account on your dashboard here

https://giffgaff.com/dashboard

Airtime Credit (called Balance) which is real money that sits on your account until it is used either to pay for the service on the PAYG basis of 15p per min, 5 p per text or 5p per MB or to pay for things not included in a goodybag.

Whereas a Goodybag is a bundle of a pre-defined allowance of minutes, texts and data which gives you a better unit price but which only lasts a month - nothing rolls over and nothing can be added to it.

You do not have to have a goodybag every month - or at all - but if you do they don’t always have to be the same size; you can choose the one that will be best suit your needs.

There are two automatic functions that help you from running out of either credit or a bag but again often cause confusion to new members due to terminology.

Auto Top Up adds credit to your account when your Balance falls below £3. You decide how much - between £10 and £30 - and how often - up to a maximum of 3 times a month.

Recurring Goodybag which renews the same size bag on the same day every month.

If, when you activate, you chose a goodybag you will be asked as part of the process if you want to recur it. Only say yes if that is the size of bag you want every month. If you are not sure if it is the best one for you say No - can always set it later once you have found the bag of your choice.

You can do it here - where you can, under My Order History, check what you have bought - 1 x Top Up for adding credit and 1 x Goodybag for ..well I think you can guess!

There is lots more to know about but this should get you up and running and if you need more help with something specific or just want to find out something just ask here on the forum.

Althoguh to keep it simple it is best to always start a new thread (using the Ask a question button) for each question so that helpers (and you) don’t get confused with answers getting mixed up together.
