Hi I've seen a few posts on this and have read the std help.

In summary:

  • phone supports correct 4G bands - used IMEI.info to confirm LTE: 800 900 1800 2600
  • I'm in a 4G area - I sit next to guys on 02 4G
  • I've had it on giffgaff for several days
  • I have a 4G goody bag
  • I've restarted a bunch of times
  • I've got the APN right (at least to get 3G!)
  • I've set 'LTE' as preferred network.
  • phone was bought in US and rooted to stock Android - could that have caused a problem?

The odd thing is that I tried it with an EE sim and same issue.

I have phoneinfo and CIDgetter installed if they would shed any light.  I'm grateful for any pointers!

Guys thanks a lot for all the help, as suggested I contacted HTC support and they told me (despite what IMEI.info says) that the phone is in fact the T-Mobile US version which doesn't support _any_ of the UK 4G frequencies....

Hi, while the networks merely list the frequency as 800MHz or 18000Mhz or 2.6GHz, in actuality the frequencies are not exactly rounded like 800MHz or 1800Mhz or 2.6GHz. So the 4G bands in US for the same frequencies might be different than than in UK, crazy fact is some carriers might do exactly like the one in UK bands but others might be closer to that freq but not exact.

So it's always bit risky to buy a phone from abroad to use in UK for LTE aspects as the manufacturers officially don't support it in UK even the specs says it has these many bands.

@bmenaman, hi, did you see my msg, i have seen lot of threads where various people said iPhone bought from US not working in UK though both have 800Mhz. For instance, iPhones bought in Tmobile was working but Verzion ones not working though all supports 800Mhz theoretically so same applies to your HTC as well.

800Mhz might be 800Mhz for Tmobile but it could be in fact 799.9Mhz in Verizon though they say it's 800Mhz, that's why we have so many SKUs for various carriers there. It's really tough to fix and need hack at chip level. Hopefully some forum expert here or other forum help you out as M8 is an excellent device otherwise.

that's interesting @satheeshukt do you know of anyway to find out what radio hardware I have and confirm exact frequencies?

I'm starting to suspect that I was delivered a different model to the one I ordered - perhaps the 'google play edition'

I have just changed from a 3g goody bag to a 4g for this month and my HTC M9 is also not working on data at all even though it was on the 3g goody bag earlier this week. Have you changed from a 3g goody bag to the 4g one on your m8 as i also have an m8 and i had this issue when i frist changed to 4g goody bag last year. Giffgaff said it was a system issue which they had rectified but its strange its happened again on my M9.

The agents usually send people messages that they have incompatible 4G goodybags when there using 3G phones.

So with that they should be able to tell you if your phone can get 4G or not.

It sounds like you need to contact them on http://giff.ly/agentsinternet

Do you think there may be a problem with the software that you have changed?
