i have just changed phones put my sim in and it says giff gaff and 4g but i can not make or receive calls help

Are you sure your phone is unlocked? A giffgaff SIM will only be accepted in mobile device that is either unlocked or locked to the o2 network.

If you sure the phone is unlocked Please check the network status in your area to check for any faults with the network in your area by following this link https://giffgaff.com/coverage-and-service and entering your postcode.

Please note: the signal checker only gets updated once an hour so if your problem has just started, or you’re not sure how long it’s been happening, if it says all is good, keep trying for a while to see if it gets an update.

Also turn your mobile device off for about 5 mins and turn it back on to allow the network signal refresh.

First try switching on Flight mode and then off again.If no good then.....

 

 


Sometimes the Network APN settings need refreshing and this will
rescan the networks.

These are the Network APN settings I use on Android for both UK and EU.

Connection Name: giffgaff

Port: Not Set
Username: giffgaff
Password: [Blank]
Server: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002

Remember to press save from the options and then shut the phone off for a few mins and then reboot.

it says giff gaff on the front screen so does that mean that its unlocked, sorry I am rubbish at this had the same iphone for 6 years I have checked the settings and turned it of and on still nothing

If you have just activated your SIM then give it a few hours before everything is working. New activations can take up to 24 hours before everything is working.
