I have recently moved to Giffgaff. I purchased the £12 Goodybag that includes 4G on 10/09/15. I activated my SIM on 14/09/15. Since activation, I have never received a 4G signal on giffgaff. I have read the community forums at length and tried everything I've read.
1. I have tried to get 4G reception in 3 completely different areas of the city. All the areas are shown to have 'Excellent Indoor & Outdoor' coverage on the coverage checker. 2. I have a 4G plan 3. Running 4G handset (iPhone 5) that gets super fast 4G on O2, EE and Three (I've tried friends' sims) 4. I have restarted the phone many times 5. I have reset network settings 6. I have checked the correct APN setting are set 7. Speed tests show download speeds (3G) are consistently less than 0.4Mbps at all times of the day - typically actually around 0.2 Mbps 8. I have used less than 200 Mb of my 2Gb allowance 9. I get 4-5 bar signal on 3G 10. Voice calls and SMS are fine.
Can someone please help? I really don't want to leave giffgaff already but I'll have no choice of I can't get this issue sorted.
You wouldn't be able to get 4G with an O2 SIM in an iPhone 5 either; O2's 4G service is what giffgaff uses for 4G, and it runs on LTE band 20 - which is not supported by the iPhone 5 device's hardware.
EE and 3 do use the one UK band that the iPhone 5 supports, so you could see 4G with them.
