I have recently moved to Giffgaff. I purchased the £12 Goodybag that includes 4G on 10/09/15. I activated my SIM on 14/09/15. Since activation, I have never received a 4G signal on giffgaff. I have read the community forums at length and tried everything I've read.

1. I have tried to get 4G reception in 3 completely different areas of the city. All the areas are shown to have 'Excellent Indoor & Outdoor' coverage on the coverage checker.
2. I have a 4G plan
3. Running 4G handset (iPhone 5) that gets super fast 4G on O2, EE and Three (I've tried friends' sims)
4. I have restarted the phone many times
5. I have reset network settings
6. I have checked the correct APN setting are set
7. Speed tests show download speeds (3G) are consistently less than 0.4Mbps at all times of the day - typically actually around 0.2 Mbps
8. I have used less than 200 Mb of my 2Gb allowance
9. I get 4-5 bar signal on 3G
10. Voice calls and SMS are fine.

Can someone please help? I really don't want to leave giffgaff already but I'll have no choice of I can't get this issue sorted.

Thanks

Your iphone 5 cannot get 4G on giffgaff or Vodafone, only on EE & in places on the "Three" network.

Hi
Sorry. Only the 5s, 5c and 6 models are 4g compatible on giffgaff.

Hi Dean. Sorry but your iPhone 5 is not compatible with giffgaff's 4G service, you will still be able to use it in 3G mode however.

So, You should see if there are any network problems where you are on this service status page: http://giffgaff.com/coverage-and-service

If that's OK then try turning your phone off, waiting a minute and then turn it back on (to force it to reconnect to the mobile network).

If still no joy, see if doing a manual roam helps as described here http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Using-giffgaff/Force-the-change-of-SMS-settings/ta-p/4871794

You wouldn't be able to get 4G with an O2 SIM in an iPhone 5 either; O2's 4G service is what giffgaff uses for 4G, and it runs on LTE band 20 - which is not supported by the iPhone 5 device's hardware.

EE and 3 do use the one UK band that the iPhone 5 supports, so you could see 4G with them.
