Hi mh husband just told me that if I put a smiley at the end of my texts, which I do all the time, then I am charged 9pence extra on top of my text.  I use smileys all the time and was not aware of this?  How is this money taken?  is it off my text alloance or my credit balance?

If your phone converts old school :-) type smilies to fancy multimedia ones, it is probably converting your text messages to MMS messages which are not included in goodybags and cost 16p each.

Hi,

It depends what phone you are using? I have an iPhone and use smileys all of the time and never get charged extra. However, some phones like Samsung turn your message into an MMS if you add smileys. You will be charged 16p per MMS from airtime credit if this is the case. What phone do you have?

Hi

When I send smily face to another GG  user it still says it is free, so i dont think smily face is MMS.

cheers

Hi, yes you do get charged if you put emoji's in a text message, it depends on your input settings, what phone do you have? I have a samsung smart phone and I have my input settings on automatic and I don't get charged if i put emojis in my message.

Hope this helps.
