giffgaff's APN settings require use of the proxy 193.113.200.195, but many people say to remove the proxy to fix some apps. This causes no problems, as far as I am aware.

Why is the proxy suggested, as it's obviously better not to use one, to avoid latency or SSL warnings?

I dont know why its there, but on my friends phone if the proxy address is removed the phone is unable to connect to the internet, but then enter it again and everything works fine.

So it doesn't work without it on some phones?

I removed it on my phone, and it still works.

Do you know why it doesn't work with your friends' phone?
