giffgaff's APN settings require use of the proxy 220.127.116.11, but many people say to remove the proxy to fix some apps. This causes no problems, as far as I am aware.
Why is the proxy suggested, as it's obviously better not to use one, to avoid latency or SSL warnings?

So it doesn't work without it on some phones?
I removed it on my phone, and it still works.
Do you know why it doesn't work with your friends' phone?
3g isn't working on my phone, wifi is though... know why this is?
proxy gives alternative routes when server is busy I believe.
