I thought I have replied you earlier. As far as I know, giffgaff doesnt have roaming partners in the Canary Islands so I think its not going to work. Best bet would be to get a local SIM there

You will be charged on roaming rates, (goodybag allowances do not apply)

Please ensure you have sufficient credit maybe, 20 pounds or so.

If you do run out, you always topup online on giffgaff.com

Try selecting the network manually

Please see http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/giffgaff-Top-Tips/Manual-Roam/td-p/3345471

You can see a list of giffgaff roaming partners here

If you plan you use data whilst roaming, be prepared to pay 45p/MB. You should seek out WiFi where possible to keep costs down. How much credit you will need will depend on how much you use, so try tracking your daily usage before you go, multiply each MB by 45p and you should get an estimate of how much you might need.

It is 5 quid per MB and so its gonna be very expensive very quickly

I would strongly consider getting a local SIM.

data/internet usage (data roaming) is expensive, 45p/mb in the EU, £5/mb everywhere else!! It's best to stick to wifi or get a local SIM if you can!

An instagram photo can easily be a couple of megabytes and that's nearly a quid down the drain in one go!

it won't cost you anything if you use wifi in free places like MacDonalds.

Hi
All giffgaff sims are enabled for use abroad.
Remember goodybags and gigabags, and free giffgaff to giffgaff are for uk use only. You need credit in your account to use your phone abroad. You need to check that your network carrier is set to automatic in your phone settings. This will allow your phone to connect to O2's partner networks all over the world. I would also disable data roaming, and use wifi where possible, as data usage abroad is very expensive, 45p per mb in the EU, and £5 per mb everywhere else. Also disable voicemail ( Dial 1626 )
You can also enable auto top up on your gg dashboard. If your balance drops below £3, you can set it to top up your credit by a set amount, this has to be done by entering a debit or credit card number.

See link below for a detailed guide for using giffgaff abroad.
