Hey, I currently have an LG Nexus 5 and I ordered my giffgaff sim and this is my second month of having it and I am happy with it so far. Anyhow I was wondering why I can't get 3G or 4G connectivity. In the house it just says G which is really bad signal for going on the internet with. When I am out and about I get H which is a lot better and at one point it said 3G and then stopped and went back to G and I was wondering how to get 3G or even 4G if possible.

My mobile network settings is:

Name: giffgaff
APN: giffgaff.com
Proxy: None Set
Port: None Set
Username: Giffgaff
Password: Password
Server: None Set
MMSC: http://mmsc-ac.MMS.o2.co.uk:10021:/mmsc
MMS Proxy: 82.132.254.1
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Authentication Type: PAP
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
APN Enabled/Disabled: Enabled
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO Type: IMSI
MVNO Value: 23410x

That's all. Please help me would help a lot Smiley Happy Greatly appreciated!

This is all a matter of signal strength , actually H is faster than 3G anyway. Unfortunately signal strength can be reduced by walls so reception in buildings can always be a bit tricky.

giffgaff do not yet offer 4G on their network, this is scheduled to arrive later this year

Try switching to 3g only mode in network settings and see if makes a difference to your connection

looks like the signal is not strong enough to give you good 3g coverage within your home and thats why you are not getting a higher quality signal.

Giffgaff has not gone live with 4G yet but this is expected soom. Your sim will be g4 g ready so when giffgaff finally go ahead with 4 g you will be ready also, providing your phone is 4g ready also.

Signal will often deteriorate indoors as the radio waves need to go through walls etc. There is nothing you can do really, other than just use wifi when at home (if you have it)

It could be that the signal strength in your area is poor unfortunately.
I have a similar issue with my data speeds...anything less than 'H' is pretty much unusable :/
Head to http://giff.ly/ggservice and pop your postcode in there to see what you should be getting.
If someone has answered your question satisfactorily, please accept it as a solution Smiley Happy
Don't forget to give kudos to those who you think deserve it, not because they're asking for it!

Hey Will

Well, you will not even be able to get 4G as of yet as it's not currently available on giffgaff until the end of next month... One of the reasons why you can't get a great connection is that your area may not have the strongest signal for 3G.

See below for info on 4G Smiley Happy

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Blog/4G-Update/ba-p/10357659

You can check your signal using the link below

http://bit.ly/ggservice

It could even be that because your walls are so thick inside your house, it's blocking out the signal.. Can you try a restart on your mobile phone to see if that fixes it Smiley Happy

All the best

Alan.
