Has the SIM worked in your old phone? if so, are you sure your new iPhone is unlocked? As a giffgaff SIM will only be accepted in a device that is unlocked or locekd to the O2 network.

If you are sure the iPhone is unlocked please sync it with iTunes to see if that helps. Check out this https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201253 official guide from Apple on syncing your iPhone with iTunes.

If you sure the iPhone is unlocked
check the signal in your area using the network status checker here https://giffgaff.com/coverage-and-service - The network status checker should give you details of any local issues, including planned work, as well as showing signal strength (2G, 3G & 4G) & any outages.

Remember that the website is updated hourly and may not display any issues at the current moment.

If the signal looks all good, you also try performing a manual roam to select the network manually see this http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Using-giffgaff/Force-the-change-of-SMS-settings/ta-p/4871794 link.

If you’re still having problems, then you can try turning your device off for a couple of minutes and on again to see if that helps.

Is the phone unlocked or on o2 for the sim to work.

Is should be showing a signal if it is, restart the phone and allow 24hrs to let the sim fully activate.

Try the sim in a spare phone if you are not getting a signal.

For internet settings have a look here once working
