You should probably check the service status in your area, which you can do by entering your postcode at http://giffgaff.com/coverage-and-service

This should give you details of any local issues, including planned and emergency engineering work, as well as indicating what sort of signal strength you should expect, and the quality of mobile internet connection. You can also check for specific mast issues and service updates there.

If you find that there are no issues reported in your area, try:

1. Checking for any GiffGaff-specific issues in the Service Updates forum at
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Service-Updates/bd-p/Notice_board

2. Turning your phone off, removing the SIM, waiting five minutes, then putting the SIM back in and turning your phone back on again, then wait five more minutes and try using it as normal

3. A manual roam (which can often sort out general communication issues) - there's a handy guide for this at http://is.gd/manualroam

Hello @stue111 & welcome to the giffgaff Community

You should probably check the service status in your area by following this link http://www.bit.ly/ggservicestatus and entering your postcode. This should give you display any local issues, including planned work, as well as indicating signal strength (2G , 3G & 4G) & outages.

If you find that there are no issues with the signal you can try manual roaming- https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Tips-Guides/Manual-Roam/td-p/3345471

And try turning your device off for a couple of minutes and then turn it back to force the device to refresh the network signal.

Presumably cos they gave not fixed it. What is the status for the mast?

Sometimes the equipment fails and they have to order a replacement which might not be in the UK. Or they need a crane that needs a partial Road closure (which take a minimum of 7 days). Or they might be waiting for a3rd party like Openreach our the electricity people.

O2 will fix it as quick as they can, but it might take a while

The status reads:

Sorry we're currently working on a phone mast in this area

You might experience problems making calls, using the internet, or sending/receiving emails.

Updated 19:30 (refreshed hourly). Recent faults might not show yet.

You can register for updates on the o2 website if you wish.

o2/giffgaff coverage looks patchy in WS15, how is it normally?

Hi @stue111

If there is a service problem or if there is maintenance or something like that in your area, then you will probably get some kind of date if you contact o2 directly. Although these dates are rather unreliable from what I have heard, they should give you a general idea as to if it is a short term or long term problem.
