Hi all.

I filled in a form to get a micro-sim sent to me, it arrived the next day which I was delighted with. Unfortunately, it's not recognised by my iPhone 4. When I use it attached to the rest of the normal size SIM supplied in a normal phone it's not recognised either. Do I just have a duff one? My number has been ported to my account already, so I'm now unable to use my mobile! What do I do?!

Hi bombardier, I hate to say it but you may have a duff sim. Before you look to getting a replacement sim, can I just clarify the iPhone is definately unlocked? If yes, when you pop the sim in does it say No Sim or No Service? Normally on an iPhone if the sim is ok and the iPhone is unlocked then you should be able to pick up a signal, even before activation, No Sim normally means its not a recognised sim, No Service means no signal is being picked up.

You can try synching the iPhone with the giffgaff sim with iTunes, some have reported this has worked for them.

Otherwise, if you have an activated sim its best to report the sim lost/stolen (sim only) and obtain a replacement. giffgaff dont supply microsims so the replacement sim linked to your account will be a normal sized sim, which you can get cut down yourself or a good local mobile phone shop will cut this down for you no hassle.

You say the number has already ported to your account? Did you activate your account with a different sim? Because you will have to get that one cut down as you can only have one sim per account

If you report the sim lost stolen using this link - http://support.giffgaff.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/100 it will be full size so you will have to get it cut. You can't order a microsim from a member and keep the number ported onto the duff sim

Yes, my old number has been ported from Orange to GiffGaff today, and I activated the gg sim online WITHOUT it being in a phone.

So I should order a new micro-sim and then get that activated on my account and deactivate the old one. Correct?

Have a close look at the sim. This is how it should be:

If it lookes like these:

it has been cut wrong and will not work and will need to re-order a microsim.
