I have transferred my giffgaff SIM from my old (very old, non-digital, prehistoric phone) to my new iphone but it’s not working.

The Iphone says there is no SIM in it. Why is that, and what to do?

Do I have to order a new SIM and why?

Possibly you didn't insert the SIM correctly. Try taking it out and checking that it's in correctly.

@emilie_mauchausse
When did you perform the SIM swap? The SIM Swap can take anything from a few minutes to 24 hours to complete. However, the “norm” is around 30 minutes complete.

Please turn the device OFF/ON at 30-minute intervals until you get a signal and the SIM starts working.

If after the 24 hours your SIM swap hasn’t completed ask a agent to investigate. To get in contact with a giffgaff agent please follow the link below to the agent form and fill in the text area or text box with the issue.

https://support2.giffgaff.com/app/ask/SIM-and-number/Performing-a-SIM-Swap/form/

The giffgaff agents usually answer within 4 hours for majority of cases however, can take up to 24 hours during busy periods. The giffgaff agents work 7 days a week from 8am to 11pm.

You will receive a email when a giffgaff agent has replied and the "Messages: From Agents" box is where you can find the agent replies located half way down the right hand side of your "My Giffgaff" page or you can access it direct by following this https://giffgaff.com/support/questions link.

However, if the SIM has been completed Check if the SIM is faulty If you have an error message on your handset (e.g. "SIM not recognised" or "SIM not valid") or if your SIM does not work when tried in another phone, do a standard SIM clean (which is just really giving the SIM card a wipe to ensure that there's no dirt on the card, being carefully not to scratch the gold chip).

Once you have cleaned your SIM, re-insert it into your phone. If you have activated successfully, your SIM should now be in full working order. If not, it is certainly faulty.

If your SIM is faulty, you will need to order another SIM from your spread page here https://giffgaff.com/orders/mgm and when the new SIM arrives perform the SIM swap again by following this http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Using-giffgaff/What-is-SIM-Swap/ta-p/7320084 guide or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RWpzgyZU-A YouTube video Tutorial.

welcome to GG
Might be an idea
You can either order a new sim from your gg account…Click here https://giffgaff.com/orders/mgm
*NOTE! Your new triple Sim (3 in 1, includes a Standard, a Micro and Nano in one Sim) will fit all phones so simply pop out the size you need! SIM will usually arrive within 5 business working days
Or you can buy one from your local ...Iceland, Poundland, Sainsbury, Tesc, Asda for approx etc £1)
Click here to get started activating it https://giffgaff.com/activate then follow the instructions
Note it can take up to 24 hours to activate another sim and turning phone on and off during the process will speed up the process

SEE BELOW FOR FULL GUIIDE TO ACTIVATING YOUR SIM
