I am unable to receive a message from the uber app on my phone (iPhone 5s) there were no issues on same number with iphone4.

Uber tech support suggests giffgaff may be blocking their number. They suggest to SMS 827-222 with "go" for number confirmation. Airtime credit is available and SMS and mms settings are correct.

I think you will more than likely need to speak to an agent and see if any blocks or age restrictions are placed on your account.

Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app on the new phone.
