Hi guys,

I'm based in South Africa and keep a giffgaff SIM for when I come back to the UK, so I can top it up and use it for the couple of weeks I'm down here. Before flying down the other day, I grabbed my SIM, topped it up and got on the flight.

However, since I got here and inserted the SIM, my phone has failed to pick up the network at all. My thought is that perhaps I've inserted the wrong SIM (I probably have more than one), but giffgaff won't let me swap the goodybag to the SIM I *do* have (I receive the message "This SIM can't be activated at the moment. Please visit the help section".

So what are my options? Do I have to pick up a new giffgaff SIM to transfer my goodybag to?

Other info:

* Bought my phone (Moto G5) through giffgaff so network, hardware etc. should be compatible.

* EDIT 1: Thought my phone settings might be out of whack. Went into Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile network settings > Network operators and tried to choose giffgaff as my mobile operator, but received the message "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network".

When the number is called, it just goes straight to voicemail. I think what I've done is topped up my account but accidentally put an old sim in my phone. Going to try and pick up a new one and get the number transferred, see what happens. Thanks for the help!

@thomplatt

That indicates the number is still active,

And a sim swap with an inactive sim should resolve the problem

When you get hold of the new sim

Log into your my giffgaff page
Http://giffgaff.com/dashboard

Check you're in the correct account
(important if you have several accounts or manage accounts for others)

Then click here
Http://giffgaff.com/activate

Input the 6 digit activation code from the new sim in the box provided and
click the yellow activate your sim button

On the next page headed

"SIM replacement "
click the yellow button
"yes I want to replace my sim"

On the next page headed

"SIM replace"
click the yellow button
"yes I'm sure"

Your new sim will usually start working within 30 minutes
(switch your phone off and on every 10 minutes or so)

@thomplatt
Hi, so you can see your number next to your username here
Http://giffgaff.com/dashboard

When did you last use your sim?
(make a call, send a text, use data)

What do you hear exactly when you call your giffgaff number?

No. I received an email saying that my phone number would expire soon if I didn't use the sim or buy a goodbag by 13 August, which I did. Can the sim still go inactive and what can I do to fix it?

@thomplatt
Are you able to call your number to check what you hear exactly?

On your my giffgaff page
Http://giffgaff.com/dashboard
Do you see your mobile number, balance and goodybag?

Are you able to hey hold of another unactivated giffgaff sim?
Several stores stock them for a £1 including Tesco, Sainsbury's and poundland

Hi @thomplatt to transfer your current number to the new SIM you need to do a SIM swap https://giffgaff.com/support/sim-and-number/change-your-sim

The SIM swap will move your current number, airtime credit and/or goodybag to the new giffgaff SIM. The swap itself should take no more than 10 minutes normally (but in some cases can take up to 4 hours).
