Hi ,

I bought an I phone 5c in which I imported a SIM card Giffgaff and the phone locked to it ... I need to unlock this phone .. Any help on how to do it will be highly appreciated ... I thought my phone is locked to 02 and phoned 02 but they told me I have to contact Giffgaff.

No phones can never be locked to giffgaff. Its locked to o2. Take it too an o2 shop or get it privately unlocked.

Hi,they would say that ,but giffgaff can't unlock your iPhone ,you should register an o2 simcard then after a few days ring o2 and ask for it to be unlocked (for a fee )!

What happens when you put an o2 SIM in it ?

You didn't by any chance get an iPhone from Carphone Warehouse "unlocked" and put a giffgaff SIM in it first did you ?

If so you may be stuffed !

It's locked to O2 not giffgaff (giffgaff does use the O2 network), so you can use a O2 SIM card for a little while and get them to unlock it (a fee will be charged for doing this).

If your iPhone is now network locked because the first SIM you put in it was a giffgaff one then it will be locked to the O2 network.

Giffgaff don't lock phones and Apple don't even recognise the giffgaff network. The unique phenomenon of the iPhone locking to the first network SIM is an idea that Apple dreamed up.

Now that your phone is locked to O2 the best course of action that people recommend is to buy and activate an O2 Pay as You Go SIM. You'll need to put 15 pounds credit on it.

Put in the iPhone then go to this page:

You are supposed to have been a customer for a year for this to work but people are saying that the form works anyway.
