Texting SETTINGS to 2020 will normally provide the both the internet/data AND MMS APN settings (if the phone model is appropriate for this facility).
Unfortunately it doesn't work on blackberrys or iphones
The phone/APN settings has no affect on the ability to makes calls or texts. For texts the message centre will normally be set automatically to +447802002606

If I helped click ''solutions and kudos'' thanks

Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Click the Menu button > New APN

Enter these details (leave all other settings as not set):

Name: giffgaff
APN: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password (this is the word "password")
MMSC: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10

Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Data enabled

Or you can try the Wifi Way
1, If you can connect to a WiFi head here http://bit.ly/Android_Settings_Application
2, Download giffgaff apn made by (paul shirley)
3, Install and run the app, selecting option 2. Sets it all up for you:

Texing SETTINGS to 2020 does NOT work on a Lumia, or any Windows Phone for that matter.

If the phone software is up to date, it should automatically set up the phone with GG's details.

Check Settings - Mobile Network to see if the phone displays GG as the active network.

Also check Settings - Access Point to see if it's listed there as well.
