mobile was topped up but it says null

giffgaff settings on iphone says "null" after topping up.

It sounds like you might need to configure your iPhone with the correct APN/data settings. Simply follow the steps below on how to enter the data settings manually.

Go to Settings
Go to Mobile (or Cellular)
Go to Mobile (or Cellular) Data
Under Mobile (or Cellular) Data Network enter the following

APN - Access Point Name: giffgaff.com
Login - Username: giffgaff
Password: [leave blank]
Proxy: [leave blank]
MCC: 234
MNC: 10

thanks but i don't get the option to fill in the rest of the details as the last thing under mobile data is password.

You will need to leave the password empty @corinnebenoliel

as long as the following two are populated your data should be up and running.
APN - Access Point Name: giffgaff.com
Login - Username: giffgaff
