no 4g when fitted old sim to new galaxy J3 6

i have recently been gifted a new Samsung galaxy J3 [6] smartphone. i have fitted the sim from my old 3G phone but on checking the settings/connections/mobile networks/network mode it shows as 3G/2G auto connect. the access point is set to giffgaff, do i need to replace my sim card or is there another problem that could cause this

Hiya @dst100

 

Please check your sim  it should be printed 4gg on the end of the sims serial number.

 

If it hasnt then order another one and do a sim swap when it arrives.

No all gg sins are 3g but check it is set to lte on the network settings

There are 2 possibilities I think:

Either your sim is a 3g only (if it is more than a couple of years old this could be the case.

Or if this is the first time you've put the sim in a 4g phone, then it can take up to 24hours for 4g to activate fully.

I'd see if 4g appears within the next 24 hours.

There are three versions of this phone @dst100

The j320 F is the only one of the three that operates with band 20 (800Mhz)

Check in Settings
About phone
Status

Also check for software updates if your phone IS the j320 F

The F at the end is the important bit

thanks to all who have left replies to my problem, i have ordered a new sim card and waiting for that to arrive, gave everyone a qudos and will select best answer when sim swap done if issue resolved
