Hi,

So I got this message from giffgaff via text "Hm, looks like you're using your 4G goodybag with a 3G phone, which means you're not getting the benefit of 4G data speeds. To save money, choose a 3G goodybag instead when it expires. As a one off we've credited you the difference between the 4G and 3G plan, and popped £2.00 onto your account giff.ly/gggb1214"

Yet my phone is 4G (OnePlus One), what is going here? Also I've checked the 4G availability and it said I was good to go.

If anyone would know what to do I'd appreciate some assistance thank you.

Tom

As the owner of a OnePlus one I was also sad to find that the phone does not support the giffgaff LTE frequency band, and therefore H+ is the best you will get.

From the OnePlus site:

  • LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40

1  = 2100

3  = 1800

4  = 1700

7  = 2600

17= 700

38= 2600

40= 2300

giffgaff LTE frequency = 800 MHz (Band 20)

@thomasbruton5995

Often this is sent in error but this time it is correct.

The OnePlusOne does not support LTE Band 20 (800Mhz) and therefore is incompatible with 4G on giffgaf even if it showing a 4G logo

You will only ever get 3G with this phone unless you move to EE

One of the most important issues with the OnePlus One for UK buyers is that it does not support band 20 4G. This is the band over which several of the UK’s networks transmit their 4G signal. And this means you cannot get 4G mobile internet with them.

The networks that use band 20 include O2, Vodafone, Tesco Mobile, LycaMobile and GiffGaff. Yes, you cannot get 4G on a OnePlus One with any of these networks in the UK.

Sorry, i'm afraid OnePlus One doesn't support Giffgaff's 4g frequency(800mhz), the best you'll get is 3g.

the comments below are correct if your phone isnt 3g you wont be able to get the benefits so you will need to check your phone model and make sure you are definitely paying for what your getting. 4g phones are a lot faster than 3g
I hope my comment helped answer your question.
