Am being stupid.

Have bought a Tesco Moto g.  And have purchased online the unlock code.

I have put the GiffGaff sim into the new phone and turned it on.

Message appears "sim network unlock pin".

Is this the time to enter the unlocking code???

Thanks anyone v much....

1) did you activate the sim?

if you did it recently then it can take upto 24 hours

2) the phone needs to be on o2 or unlocked if its on tesco network it wont work wtih gg

I am an existing customer of GG.... and have simply taken out the sim from old phone and put it in the Moto.....

what I'm asking is does the message "sim network unlock pin" mean that I now have to enter the unlock code I've bought?

Yes, that's the time to enter the code.

hang on a minute, tesco is hosted by O2, giffgaff is hosted by the same O2 and O2 is, well, you get the picture.
in terms of network locks there is only one, O2 - it comes in several flavours but they all taste the same.
you can even use O2 vouchers to top up Tesco PAYGs.
so what's going on?
I am now officially confused.Smiley Sad

well I never knew that! (doh! that's Item #2 from the Stating the Bleedin' Obvious Department.)
the only double lock I'd heard of before is on the Panama Canal!

Yup, I can confirm the double-lock too, having just bought a Tesco Moto G.

Kind of expected it, from what others had said, and it was definitely the case.  However, a £1.99 unlock code from smgreen1969 on ebay took a mere 40 mins to arrive (you buy it and then put your IMEI code in the PayPal instructions) and all was sorted out.

Still an absolute bargain, and now I have a properly unlocked phone *just* in case I ever want to move to another network - or if I need to sell.
