Hi,

You can just keep using the same sim - all sims work fine on 3G or 4G - if it is a different sized sim, you can either press it out as all sims are triple sims - having press outs for the different sizes (if newer than about 3 years).

If you do want / need to swap to a different sim, then you need to do a sim swap - do not do anything with PAC codes as these are simply for switching from one provider to another. SIM swap allows you to transfer your entire account – phone number credit etc. to a new SIM.

You can order a new SIM card here: https://giffgaff.com/orders/free-sim.

There can be a delay when you do the swap, so do it during a non-important time! it should be done by 9pm that day though.

Once your new SIM is with you, logout of your giffgaff account and go to this page: https://giffgaff.com/activate

Enter the 6 digit activation code on your new SIM card and click "Activate me".

You will be asked if you already have a GiffGaff account or not so you chose "Yes, I want to replace my SIM". Then confirm by clicking "Yes, I'm sure".

Hey presto.

@rod11sutcliffeGiffgaff distributes 3-in-1 SIM cards. If you are able to pop out a smaller SIM (nano SIM) from your current SIM, you do not need to change SIMs. Just pop out the nano section of your active SIM and put that into your new phone. If you are using an old style SIM which does not have a pop out nano SIM, you need to do a SIM swap. This allows you to transfer your giffgaff mobile phone number to a new SIM card while keeping your existing goodybags, airtime credit, and payback on your account.

You need an unactivated giffgaff SIM card to carry out a SIM swap. If you do not already have an unactivated SIM, you can purchase one in any local shop that stocks them, or order online at https://giffgaff.com/orders/mgm .

Before carrying out a SIM swap, back-up any contacts, texts and other data saved on your current SIM to your phone memory, computer, or cloud account e.g. iCloud, google, or Microsoft account, as this is not transferred over to your new SIM during SIM swap.

To carry out the SIM swap, login to your giffgaff account and then go to https://giffgaff.com/profile/details#simswap (It's the REPLACE YOUR SIM section at your giffgaff profile and settings page) and click on ACTIVATE YOUR SIM. Enter the SIM activation code when prompted and select the "I'm Sure" option to go ahead with the SIM swap.

Note that SIM swap is irreversible once started and your old SIM will be permamently deactivated. It can take up to 24 hours for a SIM swap to complete, but it is usually much quicker than that. Restart your phone periodically with the new SIM in the phone, and when it registers on the giffgaff network that's a sign that SIM swap is complete. Also note that SIM swap is unavailable between 21:30PM and 04:30AM.

Detailed information about SIM swap is available at https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Using-giffgaff/What-is-SIM-Swap/ta-p/7320084 .
