Learn how to call a number abroad using the following guide.

More Information

When calling a foreign phone number from your mobile phone you must use the International dialling code. This applies if you are in the UK or abroad.

Key in '+', then the country code, followed by the area code (without the leading zero) and then the phone number.

If you were to call a German number 01591 2345678 you would use this method.

  • Get the International dialling code for Germany: +49.
  • Replace the leading zero with +49.
  • It now becomes +49 1591 2345678

If you're unsure of a country's specific dialling code then enter the country name here.

The charges depend on whether you are using your phone in the UK or whether you are roaming outside the UK. They also depend on which country you are calling or texting. If roaming there is a further difference depending on whether you are using your phone within the EU and selected destinations or using it elsewhere in the rest of the world.

  • Rates when calling from the UK

See the international pricing page.

When using your phone in the UK, calls and texts to international destinations are always charged from airtime credit. Make sure you have topped up your account sufficiently before you start the call so the call is not stopped abruptly when your credit runs out.

  • Rates when roaming within the EU and selected countries

Special arrangements apply while roaming in EU countries and territories. Calls made to, and text messages sent to, standard landline and mobile numbers in the UK or to standard landline or mobile numbers within the country you are visiting or within any of the other listed EU countries and territories are charged as if you are calling or texting a UK landline or mobile number from the UK. Likewise, data usage is charged at the same rate as using your phone or device in the UK. Your goodybag or PAYG allowance will be deducted accordingly.

While roaming in the EU and selected destinations, calls made to and texts sent to other places in the rest of the world are not included in goodybag allowances and are charged from Airtime Credit at a higher rate.

  • Rates when roaming in the rest of the world

When roaming outside the EU and selected destinations, all calls, texts and mobile data usage are charged from your Airtime Credit balance. Usage is NOT included in goodybag allowances. Make sure you have topped up your account sufficiently before you start using your phone so that you are not cut off abruptly when your credit runs out.

The charges to call, text and use mobile data abroad are different for each country so make sure to check the Roaming charges page first.
