Some say it is not necessary, that there are fewer viruses attacking android but with around 50% of web traffic now on phones & tablets don’t you think the scamming b@st##ds who create viruses will be looking to target Android?

First of all I would say keep all your apps and your phones operating system up-to-date

Now here are some links to Antivirus providers

https://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-mobile-security

https://www.avg.com/en-gb/antivirus-for-android

https://antivirus.comodo.com/antivirus-for-android.php

https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/android-security-free

https://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-android

https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/antivirus-free-for-android.html

https://www.mcafee.com/consumer/en-gb/store/m0/catalog/mmsa_459/mcafee-mobile-security-android-free....

https://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/android-antivirus/

or just search for antivirus on the Google Play Store

Some of the above include ‘cleaning’ software to clear caches and stop apps running in the background, slowing down your phone and using the battery – but I use Clean Master and CCleaner but there are many to choose from – again just search on Google Play

Hope you find this of use, be safe and enjoy

Before I bought my cheap Chinaphone las year I already knew that some came with built in Malware.Unfortunately Amazon who I bought it off still don't check a lof of the phones they let some Vendors sell.

As I'm used to modding Android phones I eventually found a couple of better,"Custom Roms" for the phone and defeated the Malware which would cause unwanted Ads and games downloads.

The only Anti-Malware/Anti-virus that found the deep rooted stuff was,"ESET",

But another decent free one is Sophos,

Useful info @ramblerman I don't currently have any antivirus on my mobile phone. I'd never really given it a thought. But in reality now I think maybe I should. The list you give is very informative. I shall be working my way through them to choose one. 🤔
