Can you keep your number when have changed your sim card

Hi,

If you need to change your SIM type and wish to keep your present phone number, then you would need to conduct a SIM Swap.  This entails transferring your account/number from your current SIM over to a brand new (unregistered) SIM.

See full details here http://bit.ly/kbggswap

Hi @smiler1935 Sims can take between 30 mins and 24 hours to fully activate, if you turn your phone off and after a few secs turn back on again that might help it to be a bit quicker for youSmiley Wink

@cheekynat

What if wanna keep old number

If this is your first giffgaff sim ...

  • you will need a PAC (port authorisation code) from the old network
  • make sure the phone is not locked to your present network (or get it unlocked) -- unless the present network is o2, in which case unlocking isn't necessary (but other networks such as tesco using o2 do need unlocking)

Now follow the guide in the opening post.

When you're sure that the sim has activated and is fully working in your phone, in the main areas you want to use it, then (its not advisable to do it before) you can give giffgaff the PAC at https://giffgaff.com/support/ask/transfer

If the number you want to keep is already a giffgaff number but you need a different size of sim and you have an old one that doesn't break out into smaller sizes ...

* Obtain a spare sim (order at https://giffgaff.com/orders/mgm if you don't already have one)

* Don't request a PAC from giffgaff -- it is not needed and cannot be used to transfer numbers between giffgaff sims (if you've already asked for one you're fine not to use it, it will expire after a month)

* Use the sim swap procedure https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Using-giffgaff/What-is-SIM-Swap/ta-p/7320084 which will transfer the entire account including phone number to the new sim.
