PLEASE NOTE: THIS HAS NOT BEEN WRITTEN FOR THE LATEST Z10 MODEL
Due to the number of posts being made by Blackberry Users. Below is the most common reasons I have seen the last few days, this could answer your question, rather than posting the same messages time after time. Work your way through this and if it does not get you going then post.
Q1, Have you an active Goody Bag + Blackberry Add On: Yes/No
You will need an active Goodybag or Hockey Cokey Bag, with the BB add on brought in the same transaction. However if you buy either of the £5 packages they do not include data. Emails and BBM will work with the £5 bags. But you will have PYG data rates for internet and all other apps you may run.
2, Click Download Wizard on right
3, Then select o2
4, Select phone (I had to click list alphabetically to find mine)
5, Download the version to your PC.
6, Extract the 2 files somewhere.
7, Open BB Desktop Manager, with phone plugged in.
8, Click Applications (left hand menu)
9, Then Import (top right in app section)
10, Navigate to where you have unzipped the files and select the file.
11, A seperate section should show Opera, waiting install, click apply.
12, On your phone goto options>Advanced Options>TCP/IP and enter this:
Tick both boxes Enabled and Authentication
13, Once finished you should find it in your download section on your phone. Open opera and let it install (can take a while).
There is a third party app that does emails, it very basic and is not push you need to go into it and pull the emails, but its a work around without the BB add on it can be found at http://www.logicmail.org/
Q2, Has it been more than 24 hours since your 1st Blackberry add on should have started: Yes/No
Q3, Are there any current service issues? Yes/No
These can be found at: http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Service-Updates-Notice-board/bd-p/Notice_board
Q4,Does your phone show (note capitalisation) edge/3g, gprs or GSM: Yes/No
Q5, Has the BIS been activated: Yes/No:
The easiest way to find this out is menu>set up>set up wizard>Email Setup.
If it only gives you one option concerning a Business Enterprise Server it is not. If it gives you 2 options then yes it has.
Q6, Has you phone been set up to receive data:
To check menu>options>Mobile Network.:
The settings should read:
Data Services: On
While Roaming: You can use any setting, mine is on prompt
Network Selection Mode: Automatic.
Q7, Have you get Network Coverage.
Look at the network coverage http://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker.
Blackberries will try to hook up on a 3G Signal (not all older models are 3g enabled i.e. Curve 8520) first, EDGE (2.5g) second, GPRS (2g) third, finaly as a last resort GSM (1g). 1g has no data capabilities. As you move around you may well find that once you hit a 2g or higher area, data will start flowing.
Q8, Have you had a message saying your device has been registered: Yes/No
Q9,Have You Pulled the Battery: Yes/No
The OS on Blackberries sometimes need to be kick started, with the phone on pull out the battery, wait 1 minute then re-insert the battery.
Q10, Is Your Blackberry Phone OS up to Date. Yes/No
Occasionaly this may effect parts of the phone and is quite simple to do.This is easiest to do with the Blackberry Desktop software. If you dont have it it can be found to download at: http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
If that does not work goto Q11
Q11: Update service books. (Only works in GRPS,EDGE or 3G is displayed)
If the above not work, there could be a corrupt or conflict in the service books this could be a real possibility if the phone was on another network, second hand or has just been used abroard.
I would like to add some myths which exist in post after post, regarding steps to get your BB working, below is the facts. If anyone says anything different ignore them.
These are the basic things why Blackberry users can’t get their programs to work, if you have answered all these questions, then post on the forum for help.
nice guide I suggest you put at the beginning of the post about pulling out the battery while the phone's on, waiting 60 seconds then rebooting as this may fix many people's problems
The blackberry Add on can take up to 24 hours from the time the goody bag and add on comes into effect. If it’s under 24 hours wait as it will come on
seriously? that's poor.
Think 24 hours is a small price for the savings you make in the long run.
Many people have written guides, however they have put them in the right forum.
You are somewhat hypocritical talking about people not reading threads before posting. You clearly haven't read the community guidelines or forum posting guides! The top tips forum is there for this. The help forum is for people to ask for help.
You guide like many before will be off page 1 in a couple of hours and the questions will all start again. What people should be doing is actually using the search functions.
