A recent thread asked how to find out the serial number of a sim that has been trimmed for an iPhone 4

That's the 19 digit code on the sim, not the 6 digit activation code on the surrounding plastic.

The 19 digit code is useful because it can be used in the absence of the normnal 6 digit activation code

Of course once the sim card plastic has been cut and disposed of, it's may be too late to get it back to discover the serial number

Well not exactly, assuming the sim is able to be read once put into the iPhone4

  • On the iPhone, Goto Settings, General, About
  • Scroll down the screen until you see the heading ICCID
  • Make a note of the 19 digit number beginning 8944

That is your SIM serial number

Although I don't think it is critical to porting a number or reporting a problem, if you ever need to track it down for any reason, now you can

Now assuming that you may have disposed of your iphone, and have your micro sim in an adaptor to allow it to fit into a regular sized slot in another device, I will try to add instructions for other phone models as and when I find them, if people have any details to add then please post them to the end of the thread for inclusion

Blackberry

Goto Settings, Options, Advanced Options,Sim Card

Palm Pre/Pixi +

Start Launcher, Select Device Info, Select More Info, Select Hardware, ICCID is at the bottom of the page

Nokia Lumia 610/710/800/900

Go to Settings > System > About , Click More Information, SIM ID will appear along with MAC/phone number and IMEI

So what if like me you use a micro sim but not in an iPhone?

How do you find it then?

MicroSIM cards are currently only accepted in iPhones and iPads and iPads are not allowed on giffgaff - so there is no problem.

That is then not a microSIM but a SIM which has had the serial removed.

You cannot just ask "what about others" you need to be specific - there are lots of phones out of there.

And you are trying to prove that I am incorrect on a technicality - not good.

Yes I agree it looks like a full size sim without the serial number but if I wanted to I can still pop the sim out of the adaptor and pop it into the iPhone 4 and use it.

Best of both worlds hey.
