Hi all,

I think it would be a good idea to keep a list of "good deals" for sim free mobile phones and tablets. Often buying a sim free phone and joining giffgaff can be cheaper than getting a contract. Hence below I have started a list of good deals that can easily be accessed by giffgaff members. Please feel free to add new deals, and I shall try to keep the list updated.

All deals in the list will simply be calculated through buying the phone and adding a £10 goodybag for the contract period. Also, all costs for contracts are only approximate for a similar number of minutes/texts if availiable, or for the cheapest availiable contract, but they get the idea across!

Of course if you find the list useful please click on the gold star Smiley Happy

Here is a comparision with (lower budget) iPhone 4S contracts on O2 and Giffgaff.

In Summary with the iPhone 4S on O2 contracts that are comparable to Giffgaff's £10 Goodybag, you will save between £104.99 and £208.99 by choosing Giffgaff over O2. The savings increase if you get bigger Giffgaff Goodybags (and compare the more expensive comparable O2 contracts).

Giffgaff iPhone 4S 16GB

£10 Goodybag - 250 Mins, Unlimited Texts, Unlimited Data

Sim free from Apple: £499 --  Link

Giffgaff Total Cost: £739  (£499 + (£10 * 24))

(add on extra £100 for 32GB, or £200 for 64GB)

The following O2 contacts can be found at http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phones/Pay_Monthly/iphone/Apple.

O2 iPhone 4S 16GB

200 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £27 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £249.99

Contract Cost: £897.99

O2 iPhone 4S 16GB

300 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £32 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £169.99

Contract Cost: £937.99

O2 iPhone 4S 32GB

200 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £27 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £359.99

Contract Cost: £1007.99

O2 iPhone 4S 32GB

300 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £32 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £269.99

Contract Cost: £1037.99

O2 iPhone 4S 64GB

200 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £27 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £449.99

Contract Cost: £1097.99

O2 iPhone 4S 64GB

300 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 500MB

Monthly Contract: £32 a month / 24 months, One of Cost £379.99

Contract Cost: £1147.99

Remember Giffgaff runs on the O2 network and so gets the same coverage and service as O2. Giffgaff currently has unlimited data, where the contracts above have 500MB of data included. However, currently there are two services which O2 customers get, that Giffgaff customers do not. These are Visual Voice Mail and Tethering.

I think this sort of thing is definitely needed!

I really think this sort of thing should be advertised more, that is, GiffGaff isn't just sensible for those who already have phones, but is good for first time buyers too!

I can imagine certain groups, such as parents would love GiffGaff. They can hand over control to their kids without worrying about massive bills and they are immediately aware of the upfront cost.

An additional thing that would be nice would be the inclusion of some kind of short-term 1 or 2-year loan rates, to compare prices if people can't afford the upfront cost.

plus - you can save even more - if you purcahse the phone from carphone warehouse, as a PAYG handset, on any network, then it will be unlocked
